Radioembolization (Y-90)
what is
Radioembolization?
Radioembolization is a treatment offered to patients with liver tumor that effectively delivers targeted radiation therapy directly to the tumor.
How does it work?
Preparing for a radioembolization procedure requires pre-treatment imaging and meticulous planning to determine a specific dosage individualized for each patient. On the day of the procedure, a small catheter is guided to the arteries that supply the liver tumor. Once the catheter is in the correct location, an interventional radiologist will inject radioactive beads called yttrium-90 (Y90) directly into the tumor, delivering high doses of radiation.
